Introduction to Stata for epidemiologists (*)

Kursnummer:2041

Poäng:1,5

Datum:1 okt 2007--5 okt 2007

Syfte:
The aim of the course is to provide a basic knowledge of Stata, a statistical software program, for the analysis of epidemiological data.

Mål:
After successfully completing this course students should be able to: - use Stata to perform exploratory data analysis, data cleaning, and prepare data for statistical analysis. - perform standard epidemiological analyses in Stata in an efficient and effective manner. - produce descriptive statistics and publication quality graphs using Stata.

Innehåll:The course is presented in two parts. The first part assumes no knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics and introduces the Stata package and basic commands for data manipulation and presentation. The second part focuses on how Stata can be used to effectively manage and analyse epidemiological data. Therefore, basic knowledge of study design and measures of exposure-disease associations is required. Part 1: (3 days) The course is designed to gently introduce students to the basics in Stata. It will focus on the minimum number of commands that users should know in order to enter, manipulate, and present data. Specific topics include data-reporting, data-management, formatting and graphics. Part 2: (2 days) This part introduces students to basic commands useful in epidemiology. Specific topics include tables and regression models for epidemiologist (cumulative-incidence, case-control and incidence rate data), assessment of confounding and interaction, and common graphical representations.

Obligatoriska moment:
None.

Antal studenter:25-30

Urval:
Applications will be prioritised as follows: 1.Registered postgraduate students studying epidemiology 2.Registered postgraduate students from KI 3.Registered postgraduate students from outside KI 4.Students studying epidemiology 5.Others Within each category, applications will be ranked according to the motivation for applying.
