1. In vitro evaluation of new antibiotics.
The activity of a new prototype carbapenem, L-695,256, has been evaluated in vitro against grampositive and gramnegative isolates. The agent was highly active against methicillin resistant staphylococci and also against pneumococci with intermediate resistance or resistance against penicillin and enterococci.
2. Genital mycoplasmas: Infections; evaluation of methods for susceptibility testing (C Karell, Kerstin Jacobson, Signe Ringertz).
There is no reference method for susceptibility testing of genital mycoplasmas. Different conventional methods for susceptibility testing of bacteria and E-test were compared for testing Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum. The results are under evaluation.
3. Helicobacter pylori; evaluation of methods for susceptiblity testing.
4. Fungal infections: development of resistance to fluconazole. (Signe Ringertz, Per Engervall, Kerstin Jacobson).
