Coagulation

Includes the processes leading to the formation of a fibrin net which stabilizes the platelet plug, in order to permanently stop bleeding. It is likely that fibrin forms a matrix into which fibroblasts and andra cells can grow, at the site of injury. Thus fibrin probably plays an important role in wound healing.

Coagulation consists of a cascade system in which one enzyme activates the following proenzyme and so on. This cascade structure opens the possibility for amplification, i.e. more enzyme is generated at each step, and for tight regulation of the coagulation process at different levels.
