Primary hemostasis includes vasoconstriction and the following processes leading eventually to the formation of a platelet plug. Platelets adhere to exposed subendothelial collagen via the receptor GPIb (a glycoprotein found on the platelet cell surface, in a complex formation with FIX), and von Willebrand factor bound to collagen.
